On January 1, 2008, same sex couples who wish to express their life-long commitments will be able to attain civil union status in New Hampshire and find legal recognition of their relationships.

Currently, same-sex couples can marry in Massachusetts, and can seek civil unions in Vermont, Connecticut and New Jersey.

Even though many states explicitly ban gay marriage and others have legislation and court cases pending, gay and lesbian couples are continuing to celebrate their commitments in the presence of family members and friends.
